As Contemporary Arts Curator, I plan to bring a fresh, creative vision to a New York village arts festival. I will be working with mid-career and emerging New York City artists, international artists, and local artists to realize this vision. As a resident of Suffern I see a place of unlimited potential. It is a beautiful village with many opportunities for artists to take advantage of this particular moment in time. A village, with surrounding communities, that is on the verge of creating its own arts identity. We hope to bring a new dynamic on how a village can be infused with installation, performance, photography and painting. At the festival, the public will be able to observe and interact with contemporary visual arts.
All forms of visual art are being accepted for consideration into this juried local and regional show. Applications can be obtained online under the “Get Involved” section.
I just found an assistant to help me with all things ART and SMAF: Amanda Biondi.
The Shepard Fairey at the ICA in Boston was filled with energy and was the closest I got to feeling the the thrill of election night 2008 again. I wrote to him that I went to see his show and he sent me a signed catalog and the Obama HOPE poster. He signed them both! We have the Obama poster on the first floor of our home.
Dave is a one Home Depot / DJ / Paint Mixing / Viral guy.
The SMAF office is almost ready for business.
Check it out - if you’re on 34 Lafayette in Suffern.
No live nudes this year. But I will be curating. May 16th, I will be heading up to Boston to visit Shepard Fairey’s exhibiton at the ICA . I will also be checking out my friend Natalie’s show while there http://www.agcollaboration.org.
This weekend there is the BAM Silent Auction to raise money for the Performance Space. I donated a work to the Benefit.
I would like to thank Kimberly from REDLIGHTBLINKING who is helping me out with my Arts page. We are still working on the site and its 8:30pm, now that’s devotion to the festival! Thanks Kim!
I’m off to NYC on the train in the AM for some meetings, and to look at some works I made in Ireland. I will try to make it back to Suffern on Wed. night to catch the opening of the Advanced Visual Arts Thesis Exhibition at Ramapo College, 10 minutes away in NJ.
I walked around Suffern today with Mike Duggal and Marina Stark from Duggal Visual Solutions. I expressed to them, how I saw the visuals being displayed in town through building wrappings, draped works on buildings, window art, and Lamp post art. Mike came up with many ideas and revealed some technical answers on how to attach a 20 Ft. work to a building. Now the next step is picking the artist to fill specific large scale prints.
